GILLARD GOVERNMENT PROMISES HIGHWAY FUNDING

The Gillard Government has rejected claims it will take back $2-billion in Pacific Highway funding, after the O’Farrell government failed to match highway funding in its budget.

Minister for Infrastructure Anthony Albanese says the federal government’s committment of $3.5-billion will remain available for as long as it takes the state government to match it.

In this week’s budget the O’Farell government allocated $1.5-billion in highway funding- falling well short of matching the commonwealth’s contribution.
