Forensic police who were at the Maryland swamp fire this morning believe it was deliberately lit.
Police closed several roads around Maryland Drive yesterday, as flames, fanned by a fresh breeze, burnt close to homes.
Thick black smoke could be seen from around the city as the fire consumed around 30 hectares of dry grass in the Hexham Swamp catchment.

Being a Maryland resident it really is worrying. On my way home from walking the dog all I could see was thick black smoke. Luckily when I checked online it was not risking anypony’s house. Though it was spreading Westerly toward me. nerve racking
It is a worry as to what is to come, as we live in Seaham a fair distance from the fire and had our home covered with ash as it rained from the sky!! Never have seen this occur before.
