ELECTRICAL TRADE UNION CLAIMS JOBS WILL GO

Electrical Trades Union representatives have issued a warning about what they claim are the dangers of electricity privatisation, during a visit to Tamworth today.
Secretary Steve Butler claims the sale of poles and wires by the state government would be devastating.

“We believe that a substantial number of jobs will go, and there’s 220-odd jobs in the electricity industry poles and wires industry in and around the Tamworth are. And, we believe that a substantial number of jobs would go.”

Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson says there are no plans for a sell-off, but the union remains unconvinced.

“I’ll believe any politician if they come out and say we will not sell poles and wires – tick. Well done. But, they won’t come out and say that. What they come out and say is they have no plans to sell poles and wires.”
