CCTV HOPED FOR BRIDGE STREET

It’s hoped costly vandalism and pretty crime could be a thing of the past for Tamworth’s Bridge Street, if funding is given for CCTV cameras to be installed.

Tamworth’s Regional Council, Business Chamber and local member Kevin Anderson are coming together to apply for $250,000 worth of state funding.

“We want to make sure we can stamp out some of this anti-social behaviour and crime that’s happening after hours around business houses, particularly in Bridge Street,” said Kevin Anderson.

It follows a spate of criminal acts on the Carter Street playing fields and towards local businesses.

“We’ve been a victim of vandalism as far as windows being broken just recently. There has been half a dozen businesses in this area that have had windows broken by juveniles that just walk past and kick them as hard as they can until they break them,” business owner Sandy McIntosh said
