OFFICERS ASSAULTED IN NEWCASTLE OVER WEEKEND

Several police officers have allegedly been assaulted during two seperate incidents in Newcastle over the weekend.
A 19-year-old man has been charged with more than a dozen assault offences after he allegedly kicked and bit a police officer at Newcastle Train Station last night.
Police say they were speaking with the man when he lashed out at two of the officers, kicking them in the legs and chest before spitting blood at one of the officers.
It is alleged he then bit the officer on the leg, before officers restrained him and took him to Waratah Police Station.
He is facing more than a dozen charges including five of assaulting police and four of resisting arrest.
A 25-year-old man is also due to face court over the attempted glassing of police officer in Hamilton on Saturday night.
Police were patrolling Beaumont Street when they saw the man, armed with a schooner glass, assault a woman.
Officers say the man threw the glass at the police officer, which narrowly missed, before trying to punch him in the face.
The 25-year-old is facing three offences and will face Newcastle Local Court today.
