DOCTOR RECOMMENDED FOR WESTPAC CHOPPER

An independent review of the state’s aeromedical services has recommended a doctor be stationed at the Westpac Rescue Helicopter’s Broadmeadow base from next year.

Service General Manager Richard Jones says while it’s a step in the right direction, he will now lobby the Health Minister for the change to occur before 2014.

“We believe we have a body of evidence and sufficient cases to show that has to happen ASAP.”

The addition would help avoid delays involved with dispatching a Sydney-based helicopter with a doctor onboard to incidents in the Hunter.
