MOONEE BEACH HALL ROOF COLLAPSES

Emergency crews rushed to Moonee beach, north of Coffs Harbour just before lunch today after reports the roof of the local hall had collapsed.

The facility at the Holiday Park, is used by various community groups, but was empty at the time of the collapse.

“Our primary concern right now is obviously safety we have temporary fencing coming to secure the area, excavator to make the building safe so that no-one’s going to get hurt – from there the next step is seeing what the insurance has to say about it and we’ll just decide on the future of the building and obviously repairs thereon,” said North Coast Holiday Park’s Operational Manager Gerry Ellem.

The hall was already undergoing structural assessments, after its roof was weakened by the wild storms two weeks ago.

The damage bill is estimated to sit at around $80,000.
