The peak safety group for the aviation industry has taken the rare step of grounding Robinson R44 helicopters still using older fuel tanks which pose a fire hazard.
The Civil Aviation Safety Authority says, despite repeated warnings, 170 operators have still not upgraded their tanks.
In several cases, including at Cessnock in 2011, the helicopters have exploded in flames after crashing.
