SWANS’ VISIT SPARKS AFL INTEREST

It looks like the Sydney Swans visit to the mid north coast last week has sparked greater interest in the Aussie rules.
At Port Macquarie’s Stuart Park, a skills development day was attended by students from primary schools across the Hastings, eager to emulate their AFL idols.
Development officers put the young players through a series of drills, focusing on the fundamentals of the game such as marking, passing and kicking.
Despite being in the middle of what’s considered to be a rugby league heartland, AFL is growing in popularity on the mid north cost, particularly in the junior ranks.
