MARINE PARK RETHINK

The New South Wales government has announced a rethink on Marine Parks.

An immediate amnesty applies to line fishing from ocean beaches and headlands, unless already identified as endangered species habitat, and current bag limits will still apply.

There’ll be a six month audit of what the government now considers the flawed political process and incomplete science that went into establishing marine parks.

A new Marine Estate Management Authority will seek to balance the economic viabilty of the resource, along with conservation.
