He has five World Championships under his belt and now Newcastle surfing legend Mark Richards has been named as Australia’s most influential surfer.
Richards received the honour from Surfing Australia who named the top 10 influential surfers of the past 50 years.
Simon Anderson, Nat Young and Layne Beachley also made the list.
Five time champion Stephanie Gilmore was also recognised.
The far north coast surfer was inducted into the hall of fame and named female surfer of the year.
