Candles burned brightly, at a special candle-lit vigil for victims of domestic violence in Newcastle last night.
The names of 41 women killed in Australia this year were read out, as part of a global campaign to highlight violence against women.
According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, 1 in 5 women will experience sexual violence in their lifetime.
