Nelson Bay Road at Williamtown is in line for a revamp.
$6 million in state funding has been committed to improve the safety and efficiency of the intersection with Medowie Road.
Work on a new two-lane right hand turn, towards Newcastle, is expected to start this week, while lanes on the eastern side of the roundabout will be extended.
