Police and SES volunteers have spent the day searching Basket Swamp National Park after a body was found at a remote campsite near Tenterfield.
A park ranger made the grisly discovery just before 11.30 yesterday morning.
Forensic investigators spent the day combing the scene for clues to help with the investigation.
The death is being treated as suspicious.
