A blind Hunter farmer has lost the latest round of his fight to stop a major coal company drilling on his land.

Now a blockade may be Ian Moore’s final option for the property he inherited from his father.

  1. This is so wrong. No Australian should not be put in the position of going against the law by blockading their property to protect what is theirs. Laws can be changed – after all prior to 1910 landholders owned the resources under their land – so if it was in the government’s interest, it could change the law once again. But of course, our governments, states and federal, are so needy (greedy) for the resources revenue, they are staying true to form and putting their interests before their constituents. Block the gate!

  2. When is Barry O’Farrell going to wake up to what the people who elected him want, and what is best for Australia’s future food and water supply. Just because the government needs money so much is no excuse for destroying our essential water, our food supply, and ruining the lives and the assets of our farmers. The current laws are nothing short of being criminal, when Mining companies are given the legal right to trespass and ultimately destroy the property of honest, hard working, landowners, who own their land and should have the constitutional rights to use it as they desire. How can a responsible government allow and condone the destruction of farm land and water aquifers . We can’t eat coal or money. We can’t drink coal or money. IF WE LIVE IN A DEMOCRACY, and the people do not want coal mining, the farmers do not want coal mining, the local council does not want coal mining, and the community does not want coal mining, THEN WE SHOULD NOT HAVE TO HAVE COAL MINING.
My advice to Ian Moore and his neighbors is to BLOCKADE YOUR PROP[ERTY in spite of the court decision because YOU ARE RIGHT AND THIS STATE LAW IS WRONG.

  3. What a disgrace that farmers have “No Power’ to stop mining companies from entering and mining there land.
I feel angry for every farmer out there who could face the some prospect all for the love of Money. When are we gonna wake up.

  4. Legality and morality/ethcic are NOT one and the same. Disgusting and I bet all with no or limited compensation. This property will lose so much value and the owners are not entitled to royalties. It can happen to any of us.

  6. It is a disgrace that our governments at all levels are so keen to sell off as much of Australia as they possibly can to keep China happy. CSG is not sustainable it will destroy our land, and very likely contaminate our water supplies and the air we breathe. Mining companies talk of paying the landowner for every gas well they sink yet they conveniently forget to mention that the landowner is responsible for the clean up after the gas runs out. Also the same landowner can be sued by his neighbours for any damages caused by the wells and the mess. Where will the money come from to pay for all this. Where will the mining companies be ? Where will the politicians or councillors be that approved the mining ? Long Gone.
How many judges, councillors and politicians have shares or have been promised jobs etc with mining companies if they pave the way for them……………Common sense should prevail keep the mining away from our farms our towns and cities. Land owners should have the right to say NO to the mining companies. I say blockade the farm and tell the mining companies and the judge to go to hell.
