COUNCIL WORKERS UNEARTH TWEED’S HISTORY
A group of Tweed Shire Council workers, have unearthed part of the area’s history.
During the upgrade of Budd Park in Murwillumbah, timber pylons, believed to be from a century old wharf, were dug out of the bank.
“Our operators left an eye open because we knew there could be potentially archeological things on the site.”
The pylons will be kept wrapped up, while the local museum investigates.
“I think Council is then interested in putting them in as part of the interpretation of the park and the posibility of leaving the pylons in-situ.”
Workers also found a silver plated mould for making dentures.
