Thousands of Telstra customers have been without communication in the Nambucca Valley region.
A herd of cattle is being blamed for damaging a fibre optic cable under a creek bed near Bowraville earlier today, cutting phone and internet services to a wide area.
A Telstra spokesperson says temporary repairs to the damaged line should be completed shortly.
A new cable will have to be laid under the creek early in the new year.
