The city of Tamworth is cleaning up in the wake of a severe hailstorm this afternoon,
that damaged homes, caused flash flooding and brought down power lines.
South Tamworth was the worst hit – with cricket ball sized hailstones smashing windows and skylights, while roofs were torn off sheds.
The Centre Point shopping centre also had to be evacuated.
“I would say there’s going to be a lot of damage, The chemist is pretty well full of water on the floors and they’re sweeping now, I think it just came through quick, it came through the ceiling as well.”
The SES received more than 100 calls for help in the first hour after the storm, while 1,500 Essential Energy Customers had their power cut.
