ANOTHER PUBLIC HEARING FOR MT THORLEY WARKWORTH PROJECT

The Planning Assessment Commission has announced yet another round of public hearings for Rio Tinto’s Mount Thorley Warkworth continuation project.
It follows the Baird government’s plans to change the mining State Environmental Planning Policy, which would remove economic benefits as the main factor in the approval process.
In May, the Department of Planning and Environment recommended the 21-year mine extension be approved.
But the proposal has long divided the community.
The Bulga Progress Association opposes the project and says the legal and regulatory system that governs mining in the state is broken.
The hearing will be held in Singleton on September 7.

What people forget is it was originally approved met all the requirements but one judge turned it down that’s why this is now going backwards and forwards . But The Newcastle Herald and all media outlets are all negative towards the extension but they have no problem using the power from coal to run there business, homes, cars computer etc .
