Six snakes and two alligators were stolen from The Hunter Valley Zoo in Nulkaba overnight.
The two American alligators, between 60 and 80cm long, are rare and could be dangerous if released in the wild.
The snakes include a water python, a Woma python, a Murray Darling python, a black headed python and two diamond pythons.
The snakes are not considered to be dangerous.
Police are asking for anyone with information about the animals to come forward.
