HESKEY A JET? MASTERSTROKE OR MISFIRE

Everyone’s talking as though it’s a done deal.

Everyone except the two men who are returning to Newcastle from the UK after tabling a big offer to former England striker Emile Heskey.

The 34-year-old is believed to have met with Jets Football manager Robbie Middleby and Hunter Sports Group CEO Troy Palmer, who apparently offered that star a deal worth $1-million a season.

It’s believed Heskey only needs to pass a medical.

Heskey, who’s played in two World Cups including the last one in South Africa, has been the butt of many jokes in his native England for his lack of success in the goal mouth. He’s played 62 games for his country scoring just seven goals. In 18 years of top tier football, where he’s played for Liverpool, Leicester, Birmingham, Wigan and most recently Aston Villa, Heskey has scored 117 times. That’s 117 goals from 546 matches.

For that, the English press has had a field day including this.”It’ll be nice for Emile when he weds Chantelle Tagoe. It’ll
make a change to hear `Mrs Heskey’ instead of `Heskey misses’,” one newspaper reported.

If the deal is done, Heskey could arrive in Newcastle as early as next week. In a game sure to put bums on seats, Heskey could line up in the blue and red at home against Adelaide United on October 7.

Masterstroke or misfire? Jets fans will know soon enough.
