The New South Wales Environmental Protection Authority has named Bellingen Shire residents the best recyclers in the state.
The council diverted 80 percent of kerbside waste collected for landfill last financial year.
Bellingen Shire Mayor Councillor Mark Troy says it’s a fantastic achievement considering the New South Wales average is much lower at 46.5 percent.
He says the result is a great example of how a regional council can work to deliver an effective, high quality service.
