It’s created quite a stir in the region’s political sphere, and today the National Party officially named its candidate for the Federal seat of New England.
Richard Torbay was selected at a Nationals meeting in Tamworth today.
Despite being the only pre-selection choice – Mr Torbay required official support from party members.
“To have that overwhelming endorsement is very humbling and really just a fantastic outcome from the next elections perspective,” Mr Torbay said.
The current state independent for the Northern Tablelands, says his new campaign is underway.
“I’ll be working with everyone out in the community not just the branch members and the party members who have been so welcoming but also the wider community,” he said.
