Emergency services are setting up an exclusion zone at Tomago north of Newcastle after a chemical spill forced the evacuation of around 100 workers from an industrial site off Laverick Avenue.
An initial assessment of the scene indicates that no one has been injured.
Fire and Rescue Hazardous Materials units are on scene and reporting that the spill happened when a tank of highly flammable and corrosive liquid fell from a forklift and ruptured.
The spill is contained to the industrial site.
