NEWCASTLE ART GALLERY CELEBRATES 40 YEARS OF VOLUNTEERS

Volunteers are the backbone of many organisations, and today Newcastle Art Gallery celebrated the contribution of its guides over 40 years.

Guides, both past and present, gathered for a morning tea where they were awarded Commonwealth Volunteer Certificates.

Newcastle was one of the first galleries in Australia to offer free, guided tours.

It’s estimated that since the guiding programme’s inception in 1972, volunteers have chalked up 24,000 hours of service.
