A 58-year-old woman is in hospital following an accident on the Alstonville Bypass this morning.
Police say she was attempting a u-turn, when her Hyundai Hatchback collided with a van just before eight.
Emergency crews had to use hydraulic equipment to cut the woman from the car, which took more than an hour.
She suffered multiple back and head injuries and was taken to Lismore Base hospital in a serious but stable condition.
