MAN FIGHTING FOR LIFE AFTER ASSAULT AT TWEED HEADS

A man is fighting for his life after he was repeatedly punched and stomped on at a Tweed Heads house over the weekend.

Police say the 42-year-old was assaulted at a property in Dry Dock Road on Sunday morning.

Witnesses intervened and a man drove the 42-year-old, who was unconscious and suffering head injuries, to Tweed Heads Hospital at 11am on Sunday.

He has since been transferred to Gold Coast Hospital where he is in a critical condition.

Police arrested a 36-year-old man on Sunday, charging him with grievous bodily harm with intent and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

He was refused bail and will appear in Tweed Heads Local Court today.
