  1. I think this sentence was far too severe considering what the guards have to put up with. How does anyone allow someone with Hepatitis spit in there face and walk away.

  2. In to-days society we cry foul if we are wronged by some deadbeat antisocial misfit. We expect to be protected from these criminals at any given time of the day. These people we call on constantly to keep us safe from societies scum are someone elses husbands, fathers, sons, brothers, not forgetting their female counterparts. We are constantly hearing of the dangers faced by all of our essential services. Its about time that all of these services took a stand, demand your right to be safe at work. Stand up for your colleague, show that you are not going to keep putting up with this garbage, Your life, your future & good name could be the next threatened

  3. This is a disgraceful outcome. what is it telling criminals. It’s certainly showing them that our judicial system is a joke. No wonder no one feels safe anymore.

  4. Well here. we go again, another pat on the back for a scumbag criminal. Wake up to yourself judge, take a look at where society is heading, do something positive to correct it before we all fall foul of scumbags. This officer reacted in a way anyone else would have . He has a right to be safe while working. I hope he sues the arse off Correctional Services

  5. This prison officer is a respectful citizen that has NEVER put a foot wrong in in his private or professional life …..22years of service to the community and h HE gets treated like the criminal ….WHO is protecting our prison officers an and police ??? And who will protect us when these guys say they have had a Enough of the crap they take day in day out ( everyone has a breaking point )
Show your support for this and ALL officers and SHAME on the judicial
    system ………TOTALLY OUTRAGED !!!!!

  6. Well what small minded people there are to leave such stupid comments.. TWO WRONGS DON’T MAKE A RIGHT… There are many other forms of punishment other then beating somebody.. How would you feel if it was ur son or husband that was getting beaten.. What the inmate was, was horrible and nobody deserves that, but to label him and think because he is in a police holding cell that he is any less human then the rest of us, and to allow another to beat him like a dog is just mindless.. Prison officers know what the risks are in there job. He lowered himself to crimson standards by doing what his done and deserves to b punished like one.. Like i said there were several other options he could have taken other then attacking him.. He got off lightly..

  7. i find it odd that this inmates health status has become public knowledge, i also find it strange that the claim of spitting on him was somehow placing him at risk of Hep C. Surely engaging in physical violence , opening blood wounds on both parties would be the greater risk? Having said that, I do feel that the sentence is harsh for the Prison Officer. Surely changing his employment should have been first port of call & community service/training anger management, counselling etc is needed as he is clearly not able to cope with the stress of this job any longer,. 22 years is a long time in this stressful industry, I also would be very concerned for the Officers welfare as an Inmate! Good luck with the appeal.

  8. Percy

Simply, you are a MORON. He (the grub – inmate) got what he deserved.. Wake up Percy you fool.

  9. Hang in there Terry. If there is any fairness in the justice stystem, this ridiculous decision will be over-turned very soon.

The majority of fair-minded people appreciate the crap you have to go through in your job and can accept your reactaction to an abominable act by a piece of filth.

You deserve our thanks – not punishment.

  10. @ Percy …quite frankly I don’t give a damn about this ” inmate ” …. his life will go will go on as usual .. being a burden & real threat to society ..

My only concern is for the Officer who I know to be a honest and decent
person that has is being punished excessively .

The sentence is an insult to all corrective services ..hang in Terry .

  11. I think this officer got what he deserved and should serve as a warning to other officers.

Whilst not condoning the prisoners actions of spitting, this officer is trained and paid extra than other persons to cope with this type of behaviour. Terry Dolling does not appear to be a middle aged beer bellied man. No, he looks quite fit and his punching technique was quite precise. I beleive that this is not the first time he would have taken such action whether it was to the level on the video.

I also think the other officers who held the prisoner down allowing Mr Dolling to hit the prisoner should be called to account as they at no time tried to restrain the officer.

To say that he snapped also beegars belief as it takes some time to actually get in the cell, so he had time to count 10.

Enjoy 7 months Terry, you deserve it and let it serve as notice to the other officers who fight so hard for extra pay and conditions to deal with this – it appears when they are confronted with their obligations they ignore it as in this case.

  12. This sentence is a joke and will undoubtedly be treated as such when appealed in front of a proper judge.

I have watched the footage over and over and can’t get enough. I LOVE IT!!!! Show me more!!!!

If this kind of thing was allowed to occur more often people in society would be safer. At the moment most of the criminals out there are junky scumbags who wont think twice about invading your home or commting other crimes so they can get their next hit. No they wont use the proceeds to feed their kids.

These same scum bags have nothing at all to fear, society protects them and the tax payer pays them their wages through social security for being scum bags.

Society thinks these criminals do it tough in jail. Thats not true. A lot of these scum bags commit crimes to get back into jail because life in there is so easy.

Its time for the government to harden up on the criminals and start protecting their loyal servants, before too long the loyal servants will become thin on the ground if they get no protection

  13. @ I hate crims …WELL SAID !!!!! Hats off to the prison officers for the difficult thankless job they do …. criminals are destroying our lives !!!

  14. You are a moron Laraby, to think that because a person of any age or gender who obviously has pride in their appearance & fitness has any evil intent is idiotic.

  15. I think that violence on part of the prison guard is not the right way to deal with this threat and I am glad that we live in a country where our law supports my view. Prison guards have no right to beat up inmates and if any of us had a family member or friend in prison (not so unlikely seeing how NSW has the largest number of prisoners in Australia, over 200 people per 100 000 people) who was attacked by a prison guard Im sure we would not condone their behaviour. Guards should have assistance, in the form of counselling, strees management or similar, in order to be able to deal with, what is no doubt a very hard and sometimes thankless job. But they should not have the right to just bash people whenever they feel the need. This issue is not about whether criminals deserve being bashed or not (rather subjective in any case) its about human rights and the law.

  16. I guarantee if you got spat on by a flthy grot in the street 9 out of 10 people would give the perpetrator a deserved flogging. Prison officers dont stop being human just because they wear a blue shirt. Well done to the joke of a judge, several years later we have constant spitting on staff by inmates. She has given the green light.
