A man has died after a crash involving a utility and a coal train at Glennies Creek in the Hunter Valley.
Just after 9 this morning a ute was travelling along Middle Falbrook Road when it entered a railway crossing and was hit by a northbound coal train.
The crossing was signposted with a stop sign but there was no electronic barrier in place.
A man in his 50s was the only occupant of the ute and died at the scene.
The driver of the train was uninjured and is assisting police with their inquiries.
