Work has been halted on a section of the Pacific Highway near Port Macquarie, following the discovery of what could be the toxic remnants of a truck crash 32 years ago.
Roads and Maritime Services has confirmed it’s investigating suspected contamination which will be tested by independent specialists.
The semi-trailer which crashed in 1980 was carrying drums of radioactive material and other dangerous pesticides.
