A record number of junior surfers have hit mid-north coast beaches, following the launch of the National Surfgroms Program.
The Surfing Australia initiative teaches children ocean awareness and beach safety.
It was rolled out at more than 60 locations nation-wide late last year.
Former pro surfer and surfgroms coordinator Lee Winkler, says the local response has been phenomenal.
“It’s just been a huge response everyone’s really positive and happy we’ve had over 300 entrants in it now, and if you take into consideration what the nippers clubs have its not a bad hit and we’re only one surf school as well.”
Spots are still available for the 8-week program starting on Saturday.
