Lennox Head surfer Owen Wright’s elimination from the Rip Curl Pro Portugal in round three has put a dint in his 2011 ASP World Title campaign.
The 21-year-old lost to newcomer John John Florence despite posting a strong 16.96 point wave in clean barrel conditions.
His loss boosts 10-time ASP World Champion Kelly Slater’s chances at clinching the crown, but Wright is still remaining positive.
“As far as the title race is concerned I’m just going to do my best and finish off with a bang this year and get some good results. Hopefully that leaves me in a position to either challenge Kelly or get one up on him”
The next stop on the world tour is the Rip Curl Pro Search San Francisco from November 1.
