Maitland has grabbed the first spot in the Newcastle Rugby League grand final, thanks to a two-point win over Wests in today’s major semi.
The home side made a great start when Mick Moran set up Dan Randall.
The Pickers’ Adam Withyman was lucky to stay on following a hit on Matt Thurston.
Wests responded with a try of their own, Shane Antilla diving over centimetres from the sideline.
Maitland then went back in front when Dylan Jenkins somehow squeezed inside the corner post.
Antilla grabbed a double for the Rosellas but it was the Pickers who came away smiling.
