The Minister for Health, Jillian Skinner made a brief stop in Lismore today as a part of her whirlwind tour of New South Wales hospitals.
Maternity wards were the hot topic of conversation after reports earlier this week that the government is looking into re-opening up to 15 birthing facilities shut by the previous government.
But such a plan will come with challenges.
“The only way you reopen a closed service whether its a maternity or anything else is to make sure you have the skilled workforce to guarantee the safety of the patients.”
The Minister says the government plans to launch a rural GP training program as a way of attracting more skilled professionals to regions in need.
