Newcastle’s Laman Street fig trees will stay standing for at least another month, after councillors passed a Lord Mayoral minute to seek mediation to resolve the issue. Council will appoint a reference panel to work with Save Our Figs to agree on an acceptable mediation process. The group will then approach retired Justice Michael McHugh to facilitate the mediation, preferably before August 31.
