Around ten people were told to evacuate in the early hours of the morning after fire took hold at an industrial site at Heatherbrae near Raymond Terrace.
The main concern was an acetylene tank sitting close to a container load of burning tyres.
Firefighters used foam spray to smother the blaze.
The all-clear was given, late morning.
