Volunteers make a huge contribution to our community, and one Newcastle woman has been honoured for her giving nature.
When Ruth Parker turned 91, the whole of Carrington Public School celebrated.
Ruth has been volunteering at the school for the past 12 years, helping children develop their reading skills.
Her students’ success is testament to that.
And, it turns out she’s also a mean hand at cake carving.
