WILLIAM ON THE MOVE

A piece of Newcastle’s history is now even closer to getting back in the water after being transferred to a vacant lot in Carrington this morning.

William The Fourth, a $1-million replica of Australia’s first steam powered ocean-going ship, was handed back to the community by Newcastle Council after it began to rot.

The 23-year-old vessel is now being restored by volunteers.

“When the ship has been fully restored, we’ll be operating again, doing cruises around the harbour.”
