The tragedy of war can endure long after the guns have fallen silent.
In Newcastle the annual War Widows Field of Remembrance service was a poignant reminder of the cost of conflict on loved ones back home.
Each small cross planted in a patch of lawn at Christ Church Cathedral provided a tangible link to a local family’s loss.

The branch of the War Widows guild started nearly 60 years ago.
