WORKSHOP TO WEED OUT NOXIOUS PLANT

Authorities are on the look out for a noxious weed that has taken hold across the state.

Commonly named Winter Senna, the bright yellow flowers have invaded roadsides, parks and nature reserves.

Seedlings can be easily removed by hand, and larger plants can be cut.

The South American native was introduced some years ago as a garden ornament and competes with native species.

This Sunday, Byron Shire Council is holding a working bee at New Brighton to demonstrate how to control the weed.
