A $10-million safety upgrade of the Pacific Highway between Nambucca Heads and Urunga will begin this month.
The new measures, which include the installation of wire-rope barriers, follow several fatal crashes on the stretch in the past two years.
The works will also include widening of the road shoulders, removal of vegetation to improve sight at intersections and the removal of two short overtaking lanes.
The temporary 60 kilometre per hour zone at Hungry Head will become a 70 kilometre per hour zone.
