In a sign the Newcastle Knights could be edging closer to privatisation, the board has given it’s in principle support to Nathan Tinkler’s $100-million guaranteed sponsorship agreement.
During a 3 hour meeting, the board considered two funding proposals, one being a funded patrons trust model and the other, the mining magnates offer.
In a statement, the board says it will have more talks with the Tinkler Group to negotiate the key details. If agreement is reached, it’s anticipated the proposal will be put to the club’s members for a vote in March.
