NEWCASTLE PREPARES TO BRING IN THE NEW YEAR

In just over 24 hours, Newcastle’s night sky will be lit up by two New Year’s Eve fireworks displays.
This year, the pyrotechnics will be launched from Fort Scratchley, with the main event taking place at 9pm.

And as usual, the foreshore is the focus.

“It’s always a great night, particularly for the families who want to come and spread the picnic blanket, listen to the concert, put the kids on some rides and just wait for that fireworks display, it’s always a very nice atmosphere down here.”

Public transport is the best way to get there as access will be limited, with King Street the only way in.

Sections of Hunter, Watt Street, Church, Bolton and Zaara streets will be closed to traffic from tomorrow afternoon, as well as Wharf Road.
