FLASH FLOODING IN BYRON BAY

The SES responded to three calls for assistance yesterday afternoon when flash floods almost inundated homes in Byron Bay.

27 millimetres of rain was dumped on the area in just 45 minutes causing front yards to become swimming pools and the local bowls green to go under.

“its been raining consistently for a while before hand, then it just got really heavy so after that heaviness came up, about 15-20 minutes and it was up, from nothing ”

Police closed streets to prevent cars driving through with residents concerned wash will enter their homes.

A total of 49 millimetres of rain fell on Cape Byron in 24 hours to nine this morning.
