PRAWNS LOOKING POSITIVE

An early start to the prawn season on the Clarence River appears to be paying dividends for trawlers.

They started harvesting a fortnight ago, three weeks ahead of schedule, to make up for a disastrous 2009, which delivered undersized prawns only useful for bait.

The Professional Fisherman’s Association says so far this season looks like being a fruitful one, with trawlers catching up to 200 kilos a day.
