A Land and Environment Court judgement has left the future of Newcastle’s Laman Street fig trees looking perilous. The court will only uphold an injunction on the removal of the trees until next week, pending an appeal by concerned citizens.
The city council intends to remove the iconic trees over what it claims to be safety issues.
Supporters trying to save the trees have maintained a vigil in the street for several weeks.
