  1. One of the problems with the current process being undertaken by our Government, namely helicopter flights looking for sharks is: the DPI warning and evacuating beaches for 1.5m sharks (unidentified ones). Marine scientists acknowledge that no species of shark is a threat to humans until they get to at least 2m long and even then, there are still only three species identified on the East Coast (Tiger, White & Bull) that are considered dangerous after exceeding this length. This policy of warnings and evacuations, publicising of small harmless sharks is creating more fear in the community. If the DPI keep these sort of actions up, our entire north coast won’t have a tourism industry left to worry about.

  2. yes hear hear ! and the sensationalism sells news – media know it , politicians manipulate it . even telling the truth if there must be reporting would be better , eg large shark swims straight past group of people in surf as it chased a school of fish, no shark or people were harmed.
