GLASS PROCESSING CENTRE OPENS

A new glass processing centre in Coffs Harbour is expected to substantially reduce the amount of glass which currently ends up in landfill.

The centre was jointly opened today by the mayors of Nambucca, Bellingen and Coffs Harbour.

The new facility seperates glass from general waste and is then ground into small particles which can be used as road base or in drainage areas.

The glass product can be used as a replacement for sand and gravel.

The centre has the capacity to process 150 tonnes of glass every week.
