CLEAN UP BEGINS IN BOGGABILLA

Boggabilla is cleaning up after a ferocious storm battered the town late yesterday.

Strong winds ripped off roofs, uprooted trees and brought down power lines, leaving more than 4700 customers without electricity.

The local SES received 45 calls for help.

A number of homes have been damaged, along with the RFS and SES buildings, the Post Office, General Store and Wobbly Boot Hotel.

1500 houses remain without power tonight, as Country Energy crews begin repairing damaged power poles and over two kilometres of lines.

Member for Barwon, Kevin Humphries, is calling on the state government to declare the area a natural disaster zone.
