FEDERAL APPROVAL FOR C & A’S WALLARAH HOUSING

State Member for Swansea, Robert Coombs, says a 950-lot housing project on the Wallarah Peninsula will still be subject to community consultation, before it gets to the approval stage.

Coal and Allied’s plan, which covers 106-hectares across Gwandalan, Nords Wharf and Catherine Hill Bay, was first lodged in 2006, and yesterday received federal environmental approval.

“We believe the project delivers significant environmental benefits to the region, along with the economic stimulus of new jobs and housing, which is what the region needs according to the state government.”

The plan will be reassessed by the state after a court recently ruled against some nearby developments.
